You can export Anamorphic footage in any software. In this article, we will explain how to export anamorphic footage specifically with Da Vinci.
After Importing your clips into the media pool (in Davinci Resolve), first make sure that it doesn't look ‘stretched’ / ‘squeezed’
- If it does, go to ‘Clip Attributes’ & set the correct ‘Pixel Aspect Ratio’ that fits the anamorphic aspect ratio you shot in
- Once your footage looks correct, set your ‘Project Timeline Resolution’ to the resolution that fits your footage & also must be within the following range: 1.33 - 2.4 (for example, the ratio of 3840x2160 is 16:9 = 1.78)
- Here’s an example of anamorphic footage with 8192x3456 resolution. In that case, the aspect ratio is 8192x3456 = 2.37, which is in our accepted range - then we’ll set the Timeline Resolution like that:
- Check this “Aspect Ratio Cheat Sheet” to find the fitting resolution for your project
- If your footage is wider than 2.4 aspect ratio, do a simple scaling adjustment to fit it into a 2.39/2.4 timeline, as below:
- Make sure the exported clips’ aspect ratio is not wider than 2.4
- Finally, after you made sure all clips looks correct on your timeline with a resolution in our accepted range, we can go to the ‘Deliver’ page to export
- When rendering Individual clips make sure to Deselect ‘Render at source resolution’
Other than that, you can follow our usual Export guidelines
