What Are Template Software Additions

In general, a software addition is a template duplicated from the software it was originally created in, into another software. There might be differences in its design and the animation, due to the technical capabilities of the software.

Keep in mind that a user downloads a template for its design (layout and composition) and animation - in some cases, it is more for the design than the animation and vice versa. Also, take into consideration what is the main focus of the template - for example, if it is a slideshow template the main focus is the media placeholders (in most cases), and the text is secondary to the design.

In most cases, the main differences we see between software additions are in the text animation. You should not consider the technical capabilities of each version when deciding if it is a software addition or not.

At Artlist, all software versions are represented by one preview movie.

You should apply the “95%” rule when deciding if one preview movie can be applied to multiple softwares - Is the overall design and animation of the template 95% similar between the different software versions?

Examples For Software Additions

In these templates, the overall design is similar throughout all versions, but the text animation is different. In the AE version the text builds up letter by letter, and in the PP version it builds up as a whole line - the 95% rule does apply here, as the overall design is similar.

In this case, we see a difference in design, both are specific slides inside of a presentation template. As this is one slide out of many, also here you can apply the 95% rule - there might be a difference in one specific slide, but the overall look and feel are similar enough to be considered a software addition.

In the AE and PP versions there are 2 different fonts, in the FCP version, there is only one. The main focus of this slideshow template is the media placeholders, and if it is similar between all the versions you can consider it as a software addition.

The layer order is different between versions, but still, the overall design is similar enough to be considered a software addition

Examples for Not being a software addition

In this template, the logo is the main focus of the template. There is a big difference between the AE version and the PP version. This will not be considered as a software addition.

This template is very similar in its look and feel, but in this case, the template is more of a “text tool” for users to use on top of their video, focusing on the text animation and not on an overall design layout. Again there are noticeable differences between the AE version to the PP version. This will not be considered as a software addition.

Choosing The Preview Video And Thumbnail

Try to choose a preview video that best represents all software versions and also shows the template at its best. If the differences are minor choose the AE preview. When the differences are more noticeable choose the PP, FCP or DR version - use your common sense to determine which preview best represents the template without “overselling” it.

If the 95% rule doesn't apply to your submission. Please fill in the submission form for each version and upload each version separately with its own unique name.
