How to Be Successful on Artlist: 4 Tips

What makes Artlist unique for artists is our focus on quality though our hand-selected curation process, as well as the way we showcase and feature our media.

For a lot of Artlist filmmakers, being successful on the platform means earning a passive income. For others, success means bringing in a primary income. Whatever you’re looking to achieve, we’re here to support you and help you reach your goals. Here’s our best advice for succeeding as an Artlist filmmaker:

  1. Research
  • Look through the existing catalog content to understand the quality we're expecting
  • Keep up with our "In the Loop" Monthly Newsletter for content inspiration and knowledge
  • Check our "Content in Demand" page to see what content we're actively prioritizing adding to our catalog
  • Stay up-to-date on current industry trends and popular current events from around the world.
  1. Create powerful visuals
  • Create inspirational frames using color, lighting, and strong composition.
  • Ensure all content is authentic, trendy, and adds unique value to our catalog
  • Make sure to cover the scene and include at least one shot within your story that stands out (aka the “money shot”).
  • Show your style in your work.

    • Color: Define a color palette for your story:

  • Lighting: Define your lighting style according to the content and what will deliver it best. Learn different lighting styles and techniques (e.g., high key, low key, 3-point lighting, etc.).

  • Another helpful tool is to use frame guidelines.

3. Include diversity and variety in your work

Incorporating people of diverse genders, sexualities, ethnicities, and cultures in your shots enhances the value and inclusivity of your footage. Additionally, explore alternative compositions by varying roles, subjects, and perspectives. Experiment with telling the same story while switching characters and camera angles to offer users a broader range of options.

4. Consider the user

  • Think about how your footage can be used and what you are trying to offer users through your content.
  • What’s the main purpose of your footage?
  • Understand your audience and what makes the shots usable.
  • Consider the impact you want to have on your audience through your shot and how you can direct your audience to achieve the desired effect.
